Root access for Android4.4.2 or 4.3!

Postby khiremandar » Fri Nov 21, 2014 6:55 am

I ported Android 4.4.2 on Wandboard successfully.
In this first i build kernel_imx & then Android with help of this forum instuctions.
Now when i install 'Root Checker' app which available in following link of Google Play
I see following Result:-

If i just build Android, then kernel_imx folder's containt not clear & build, it use without change.
So i done more deeper build.
Question is why 'This device does not have proper root access.'?

Hello khiremandar,

First of all very glad to see android on Wandboard Quad with custom kernel and display. :) Best luck.

As per root access concern,

Had you just tried out the tapping the 'kernel version' 6-7 times, as we do in our general android device ?? :?:

Just try it out and let know your result.

and Towel Pie Root is also one click root app, so you can also try it, download it.
link :

Also one more app Unlock root app and try it out.
link :

steps for it.

Download the unlock-root tool by using the link from here; take note that there is available a free-version and a paid variant of the program, so get the one that you prefer the most (I recommend you to get the free one because you don’t know if the tool will work for your handset or not).

Save the file on your computer and then install the same.

Also, run the executable file.

Download and install the drivers for your handset on the computer.

Connect the device with the computer by using its USB cable.

Up next, from the Unlock-Root tool click on the “root” button.

A list of devices will be displayed.

Select your phone / tablet from that list and start the rooting process.

In the end, a confirmation message will be displayed on your computer.

Unplug the USB cable and reboot your device.

So, just try above solution may be it will work.

Best Luck :|

Thanks JayminD,
When we purchase some Smart phone/tablet, it not given as Root access to us from Manufacturer. Becuase its OS source is not open for all.
When ever we try to 'root' the device...Warranty finish.
Here for Wandboard 'Device' we have Source Of OS with kernel, BSP. We can build its kernel, We can edit its Driver, we Can port it on SD card which ever size approperatly like Smartphone/tablet manufacturer.
We can see all root file system by File manager, by RS-232 serial communication we can give commands.
Then also When Apps which just for checking Device is 'Root' or not, it shows result as per previous post.
I think its not right way to gain 'Root' by Ready made app. Something should by Building & porting.
Can someone else help me?

Hello, khiremandar:

As far as I know, the reason for android not open the root permission is to prevent that the application damages the whole system and malware steals personal information. This concerns are about system stability and security.

From Android 4.2 to android 4.3, the permission scheme becomes more complicated.
It can't just modify "su" program in android to get root permission...
It needs to run a SUDaemon to help APP to get root permission.

If you want to root this device, you can try this:
Download from

Copy superSU to your SDcard with android installed.
Code: Select all
sudo mount -p /media/system
sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sdc5 /media/system
sudo mkdir -p /media/system/bin/.ext
sudo mkdir -p /media/system/etc/init.d

sudo cp -f arm/su /media/system/xbin/daemonsu
sudo cp -f arm/su /media/system/xbin/su
sudo cp -f arm/su /media/system/bin/.ext/.su
sudo cp -f common/Superuser.apk /media/system/app/Superuser.apk
sudo cp -f common/ /media/system/etc/
sudo cp -f common/99SuperSUDaemon /media/system/etc/init.d/99SuperSUDaemon
echo 1 | sudo tee -a /media/system/etc/.installed_su_daemon

sudo chmod 0777 /media/system/bin/.ext
sudo chmod 06755 /media/system/bin/.ext/.su
sudo chmod 06755 /media/system/xbin/su
sudo chmod 0755 /media/system/xbin/daemonsu
sudo chmod 0755 /media/system/etc/
sudo chmod 0755 /media/system/etc/init.d/99SuperSUDaemon
sudo chmod 0644 /media/system/etc/.installed_su_daemon
sudo chmod 0644 /media/system/app/Superuser.apk

sudo sync
sudo umount /media/system
