Wandboard Solo SD card

Postby sahancr » Mon Jan 16, 2017 5:25 am

Dear All,

I'm absolute newbie to wandboard and I'm trying to install ubuntu 14.04 to SD card based on Robert Nelson's guide
https://eewiki.net/display/linuxonarm/Wandboard

Everything goes well until Create Partition Layout section. My util-linux version is 2.28.2
Therefore I used following command

sudo sfdisk ${DISK} <<-__EOF__
1M,,L,*
__EOF__

But it gives me an error. I couldn't rectify it. Error images are attached

I tried Kernel v4.4.x-rt (Longterm 4.4.x + Real-Time Linux): and in build kernel I did as follows. images are attached.

I'm stuck in this SD card section and can you please help me to get out of this and solve the issue?

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Sahan

looks like you set DISK=/dev/mmcblk0

1) your /dev/mmcblk0 only has 798 sectors but you are trying to create a partition starting at sector 2048.
Do you really have a 399 MB SD card? If you do then ignore the rest of this post, your SD is too small.

2) your lsblk command does not show a /dev/mmcblk0 device.

The instruction says to run this command (export DISK=/dev/mmcblk0) but only if your SD is attached as /dev/mmcblk0.
For these instruction we are assuming, DISK=/dev/mmcblk0, lsblk is very useful for determining the device id.

Where is the SD card you are trying to format attached?

looking at the output of the lsblk command, I'm guessing that you are using a 8GB SD card in a USB adapter.
If true then it is attached as /dev/sdb. If true you need to
go back to this section in the instruction Setup microSD card and run this

export DISK=/dev/sdb

instead. Then continue with the rest of the directions.

Dear Nevmair,

Thank you very much for your reply. mine is USB attached 8GB SD card.

I tried it and now i got following error.

"[sranasinghe@localhost ~]$ sudo sfdisk ${DISK} <<-__EOF__
1M,,L,*
__EOF__
Checking that no-one is using this disk right now ... FAILED

This disk is currently in use - repartitioning is probably a bad idea.
Umount all file systems, and swapoff all swap partitions on this disk.
Use the --no-reread flag to suppress this check.

sfdisk: Use the --force flag to overrule all checks."

Sorry for asking everything.

Can you please help me to solve this?

Sahan

The output of the lsblk command tells you that /dev/sdb1 is mounted to /run/media/sranasinghe/......
That is what the command is complaining about.

Your system is auto-mounting the SD card when you plug the card in.

Before doing anything to the SD card run this command

sudo umount /dev/sdb1

You should always make sure nothing is mounted to the SD card before working on it.

run these commands and post the output.

ping mit.edu
traceroute mit.edu
ip a
ifconfig -a
route -n

then ping your router and post that.
