IMX6 VR, Android 4.3 and formatting SD issues

Postby dbrockma » Wed Sep 16, 2015 8:15 pm

I'll admit I'm feel stupider and stupider every day, and am now getting frustrated. Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I have read several dozen responses on the forum and external sites.

From http://www.wandboard.org/downloads I downloaded http://www.wandboard.org/images/downloads/wand_imx6_dev_vm-20141009.zip (after putting a dotted decimal URL in FRONT of http://www.wandboard.org which did not help my mood)

Following the guide at http://wiki.wandboard.org/Android_Compiling_Virtual_Machine:

I can get everything to work and even make changes and compile to the code. The reason I'm using the VR provided from the Wandboard site is that I was never able to get the environment right when I tried to make one on my own. At least I CAN compile the code using this VR and run the 'build process' from the guide.

However, when I get to SDCARD,

$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=1M count=1 --- Works fine
$ sudo ./wand_fsl_sdcard-part.sh /dev/sdX ---

This line that invokes the script, which I assume is supposed to partition the SD card, gives all kinds of errors, even on a known good card that boots android and is already partitioned. Same results on a zeroed device.

Output from wand_fsl_sdcard-part.sh ----------------------------------

Well, I said I was getting stupider and stupider. Thanks for the information, but there was one other little thing, and I remembered a similar problem I had with Windows.

For some reason my USB 3 card reader/writer does something sometimes that cause SD cards not to work correctly especially for partitioning or doing non-native Windows partitions IF there is another card reader installed (I have 2)

Thanks, I did get the script to work!

Ah, the Wiki misses a couple of important steps, such as making a couple of directories.

I did get the 4.3 example to compile, create the SD partitions, manually made a few directories, and finished the build from the guide. Boots fine with no display or anything connected to the USB port. However, if the monitor is connected it gets the dreaded "untracked pid' loop and never boots.

Going to take those wiki pages and scripts and make one specific for me, then try to do a 5.x compile.

hm.. look into uSD card part1 file boot/uEnv.txt
for wandboard you need baseboard=wand and true video output
for hdmi - video_mode=display0=dev=hdmi0,mode=1920x1080@60,if=RGB24,bpp=32
other examples look into part1/settings

for control, if you have serial console, check kernel cmdline during boot you board..
