Reasons for PMIC on new Wandboard

Postby marrtn » Thu Jan 25, 2018 8:00 am

Hi Forum,

I have only a basic question. The former Wandboards werde using "discrete" power supplies for i.MX6, but the latest revision uses the NXP PMIC.
Can someone tell me the reason behind this decision?

Best regards

One reason is that it allows a longer DC power cord to be used, assuming it is over 5 VDC. Since the PMIC regulates the voltage, the power input can have a wider range of voltage. The old boards are easily damaged if the input voltage is too high, but I have not actually tried a higher voltage power supply yet.

I think the PMIC also allows for battery-backed operation.
