ubuntu 16.04 on wb quad rev C1 not booting

Postby veracity » Wed Jan 17, 2018 4:49 pm

My request is simple: why isn't the current Official Ubuntu OS download ("WB All (rev D1): Ubuntu 16.04 armhf") working for Quad Rev C1 boards? I can't be the only person with this issue...

Surely the change in hardware isn't enough to stop the boot if different drivers could be *added* to the current rev C1 working image to enable both to boot?

I've tried everything: all the troubleshooting list on the forum / connect directly to HDMI out etc. Even changed the flag on the boot section to lba (as per this post viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1467 ) but still nothing enables it to boot up.

I've had minor success with the community 15.10 version then doing a manual command line debian upgrade to the OS, but of course, the kernel doesn't update this way...

Can you shed any light/let us know when a Rev C1 version of 16.04 LTS will be available with the 4.#### kernel? Thanks.

I have some WBSolo Rev C1 boards and they report the following at boot time [over RS232 serial]:

Code: Select all

Of course it hangs without a dtb to load. Guess what? The only dtb's available on the image are for the rev D1.

Code: Select all
parallels@ubuntu:/media/parallels/74C5-8858$ ls -al
total 6826
drwxr-xr-x  2 parallels parallels   16384 Dec 31  1969 .

-rw-r--r--  1 parallels parallels 6561424 May  5  2017 zImage

So by "WB All [rev D1]" they meant *only* the rev D1.

Should be able to generate a functional dtb from the kernel source's device trees [4.1.15 according to ubuntu_release_notes.txt] and put it on the image.

Can you shed any light/let us know when a Rev C1 version of 16.04 LTS will be available with the 4.#### kernel?

Judging by the fact that this image has been up for 9 months with no remediation, I wouldn't hold my breath expecting them to deliver a fix.
