Hi,

reading this article

https://memcpy.io/android-getting-up-an ... -imx6.html

I was wondering how this can affect the graphic performances of Andriod builds.

Could anybofy explain?

Thanks

Interesting article indeed. The dependency on proprietary frameworks has always been an eye-sore for an open-source board.

My guess is that the open source stack would be slower than the closed one.
This because it does not utilize the hardware as well as the proprietary stack, possibly due to lack of documentation or due to the closed stack having received more engineering time.

The EtnaViv drivers for OpenGL ES are not likely to perform any better than the closed-source drivers from Vivante that NXP distributes.
I use the Vivante drivers extensively on Wandboards. They perform very well and I have never needed the source code.

The big performance (and security) problem on Android is Android itself. Yocto (with or without X11), Ubuntu and Debian have better graphics performance on the i.MX6 than Android.
