You can install apps directly from the Google Play website once you install Google Play Services. I installed Google Play Services on the Lollipop image provided for the Wandboard using this APK:

adb install ~/Downloads/Android/GooglePlayServices_com.google.android.gms-v7.8.87-(2077814-430)-7887430-Android-5.0.apk

Google that file name to find sites where you can download it from.

I had the same issue as FrankG, so I found a different source for the Gapps.

For 5.0.2, I downloaded the Gapps from this site http://www.androidrootz.com/2015/03/dow ... gapps.html and chose one of the links for a stock version. I installed this on a Wandboard WBQUAD.

I installed all of the folders in Core and GMSCore which enable Google Play Services, into the 5.0.2 SD card. (In ubuntu you should be able to find the partition on the sdcard that has the system folder; You should be able to see folders such as app, priv-app, framework, and etc. Use sudo fdisk -l to find the partition where the system files are stored - in my case it was /dev/sdc5.)

sudo mount /dev/sdc5 /media/system
sudo cp -a Core/required/* /media/system/
sudo cp -a GMSCore/0/* /media/system/
sudo cp -a GMSCore/common/* /media/system/

(optional - copy any of the Google Apps you want to the device, for example chrome)
sudo cp -a GApps/chrome/* /media/system/

sudo umount /dev/sdc5
