Hi,

I want to use Yocto Project to generate an image file for Wandboard Dual.
My OS : Ubuntu 16.04

With Dizzy Yocto (1.7.3), I have an error : Install SDL devel.
With Morty Yocto (2.2.1), I have this error :

The best version of Yocto for the Wandboard is Fido (1.8.2). It works well.

Did you find a solution to morty/4.1.15? Or anyone with solution of the problem with morty/4.1.15? Going back is not an option for me. I need 4.1.15, just got image built from repos (no errors) and got exactly the same kernel panic. The only hint is just above the panic: "devtmpfs: error mounting -2", so I'll be looking into that.

As for the dizzy and SDL devel issue breaking build, I had to comment out these lines in build/conf/local.conf:
#PACKAGECONFIG_append_pn-qemu-native = " sdl"
#PACKAGECONFIG_append_pn-nativesdk-qemu = " sdl"
#ASSUME_PROVIDED += "libsdl-native"

I did not try fido, but jethro did build ok and booted (I only tried target core-image-x11).

I had a bit more time to look into the issue with 4.1.15, and came across a post that the issue may be in this line:

VFS: Mounted root (vfat filesystem) on device 179:1


The suspicion is that wrong mmc device is mounted and as a result, there's no /dev directory to mount the devtmpfs, and thus the error:

devtmpfs: error mounting -2


... and right away init panics. If it is indeed due to device numbering mess, then solution will be to rearrange devices in dts somehow.

I've checked Krogoth out, but did not finish the build as it has 3.x kernel.

Meanwhile I just got Freescale's 4.1.15 version to build and it boots ok. One problem I had to resolve - they have linker problem in u-boot-imx and no obvious solution. I switched to u-boot-fslc (one line change to preferred for wandboard in .env file). If I need to complete community's version, I would check DTS and u-boot scripts between the Freescale and Community. On the surface of it DTS differ a lot, including USDHC entries.

I used the following variables (in my build manager script):

Hej!

The problem is because you provide the wrong root= option to the kernel command line. It tries to find your rootfs on the wrong partition (HINT: it says

Mounted root (vfat filesystem)

when your rootfs type should be ext3/4.

If you force it to

Code: Select all
root=/dev/mmcblk2p2


then you ensure that you are reading your roofts from the second partition of your SD card on /dev/mmcblk2.

To do this, you can either edit the extlinux.conf file in the boot partition or to set it up with every build, set the following variable in your local.conf file:

UBOOT_EXTLINUX_ROOT = "root=/dev/mmcblk2p2"


and ensure that this variable is commented/not used in the wandboard.conf file.
